Another strong quarter

A message from Rob Boyer, CEO

Good summer to everyone! I'm happy to report a very good quarter with buildings and tenants all performing as anticipated. Smooth and steady — that's what we like.

Restore Community Church, our tenant at St. James, has notified us of their intent to purchase the property for $800,000. We expect this transaction to occur in 2025. Bellicose Church, our tenant at Grace Paseo, is leaving us August 1 to purchase a building of their own — they have outgrown Grace Paseo. Providence School remains, and we will take this open sanctuary opportunity to actively seek a buyer for the property. The presence of an active, rent-paying school should make this property an attractive buy for a church.

In disturbing news, Johnson County, Kansas, in their infinite wisdom, is attempting to increase the property tax at Mission Southside by 138%. They valued the church at $1.3 million, which on a PSF basis would make it the most expensive church in Kansas City. We have obviously appealed!

City Church KC, our tenant at Blue Ridge Trinity, has notified us that they will not have the money required to purchase the property on September 1, as contracted. If they need a few more months, we will accommodate them, but otherwise have numerous groups interested in that church and may proceed with a different buyer. I'll keep you posted.

As always, thank you for being on this journey with us. There is never a dull moment — we learn something new every day! As always, I welcome your comments and questions. Peace.

Spiritual impact

“God is intentional.” These were the words of Pastor Armour Stephenson III as his church, City of Truth, began holding regular Sunday services at Our Lady of Lourdes. “After being portable for seven years, our portable journey has ended.”

The church, at their own cost, executed numerous renovations to the sanctuary, including new flooring, stage, lights, sound systems, and seating. These renovations, in partnership with work from Narthex — which included new HVAC, new bathrooms, and a host of other repairs and upgrades to the property — have turned this once sleepy Catholic church into a thriving space that now attracts more than 1,000 worshipers each Sunday!

This was a lengthy and complex project from start to finish, but to see the fruits of our labor is a great and satisfying reward to all of us at Narthex. God is good!
